1. FARMSTEAD GOLF LINKS Low: £22 High: £45

Farmstead has gained recognition for its mammoth par-six 18th hole. The tee box on the 767-yard hole is set in South Carolina, and the green is actually in North Carolina. Is it a gimmick? Not really. It's different, but it's a well-designed hole. The remaining 17 holes are also a delight to play.

2. BURNING BRIDGE GOLF CLUB Low: £26 High: £52

Named "2006 Myrtle Beach Golf Course of the Year" by the Myrtle Beach Golf Course Owners Association, Burning Ridge's great layout is a test for all golfers with generous landing areas off the tee, yawning bunkers and well-protected greens. The design provides an exciting risk-reward element to the game for aggressive players.

3. BLACK BEAR Low: £25 High: £54

At Black Bear they invite you to "take a walk on the wild side." The beautiful parkland-style design was sculpted out of a land full of hardwoods and pines. With no homes around the course you will enjoy a pure golf experience with no outside distractions. The top notch course conditions, popular grillroom and great customer service make this one of most enjoyable courses to play.

4. MYRTLEWOOD GOLF CLUB - PALMETTO Low: £27 High: £44

The Palmetto Course continues to impress golfers with its dramatic views and challenging layout. Skirting the scenic Intracoastal Waterway, it takes full advantage of its magnificent surroundings. Included among South Carolina's top 40 layouts, the Palmetto is renowned for its smooth bentgrass greens, open rolling coastal terrain and signature finishing hole parallel to the beautiful Intracoastal.

5. MYRTLEWOOD GOLF CLUB - PINEHILLS Low: £27 High: £44

PineHills was designed in 1992 on the site of the Pines Course at Myrtlewood on the Grand Strand. Arthur Hills transformed this pioneering course into a contemporary design that immediately became a "must play" for resident and visiting golfers alike. The design was nominated for Golf Digest's 1994 "Best New Resort Course" and is widely regarded as one of the best maintained courses on the Grand Strand.

6. THE WITCH GOLF CLUB Low: £28 High: £62

Rated 4.5 stars by Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play.", The Witch is a must play. Course designer Dan Maples built 4,000 feet of bridges just to connect all the holes. The front side plays through the majority of these natural hazards while the back moves over more rolling, wooded terrain. There is probably not another course like this any place in the world.

7. HEATHER GLEN GOLF LINKS Low: £32 High: £65

This 27-hole layout was inspired by the traditions of Scottish golf. From the moment you arrive at the British-style clubhouse, you know you're in for a special day. Named Golf Digest's "Best New Public Course" upon opening in 1987, this popular course continues to be an outstanding selection for a Myrtle Beach golf trip.

8. HERITAGE CLUB Low: £38 High: £64

The Heritage Club is carved out of 600 acres of former plantation grounds and winds its way along the Waccama River with giant magnolias and 300-year-old oaks dominating the landscape. It's a beautiful setting with spacious fairways and undulating greens surrounded by lush stands of camellias and azaleas. Don't let the beauty fool you, at over 7000 yards, this track will challenge your best game.

9. OYSTER BAY GOLF LINKS Low: £38 High: £70

Oyster Bay is one of Dan Maples' most celebrated golf designs. He set out to create a course "where variety and innovation are the name of the game." The course features severe marsh-oriented holes, two island green par threes, beautiful fresh water lakes, and a wonderful combination of both short and long holes. Known for its wickedly undulating greens, Oyster Bay will test your mettle from start to finish.

10. LEGENDS HEATHLAND Low: £38 High: £77

The par-71 Heathlands is modelled on British seaside links with its lack of trees and menacing winds. Although the fairways look wide and inviting from the tee, you'd better keep it straight as deep pot bunkers and thick rough await any wayward shot. In addition, your short game will be challenged by the undulating and well-guarded greens.

11. LEGENDS MOORLAND Low: £38 High: £77

Upon opening in 1990, P.B. Dye's Moorland Course was crowned one of the "Top Five New Public Courses in America" by Golf Digest. Much like P.B.'s father's design at PGA West, the target-style course features deep bunkers, multi-level greens, and Dye-signature bulkheads. This challenging design will confound and delight even the best of players.

The Parkland makes up the three Legends courses. The design was inspired by the early American courses, like Augusta National and Pine Valley. Wetlands, deep-faced bunkers, generous fairways, large greens and minimal rough make this an exciting course to play.

Long established as one of Myrtle Beach's top courses and hosting the Senior Tour Championship, this course allows guests the privilege of playing a championship course and testing their skill on the same grounds that famous golfers have walked. 16. BAREFOOT RESORT - LOVE COURSE Low: £57 High: £96

Davis Love's creation exemplifies the best of modern course design with a visually impressive selection of holes. There's plenty of room in the landing areas, but trouble is never too far away. The course also features outstanding playing conditions with three different types of Bermuda grass used on the greens, fairways, and rough. Also consider the other three courses at Barefoot Resort by Pete Dye, Tom Fazio, and Greg Norman.
